So as we know, mining is pretty much dead in the water in terms of difficulty and how far things can be pushed to make a profit, so I ask, does anyone still fold, mine, Seti etc... any more?

2*8c/16t in a duallie board runs at ~240/250w. Heat my place with them in winter :)

Happy to help someone else try. Personally, I am too committed elsewhere to move teams.

I just got a rig a few months ago. A close friend and fellow moderator over at Techpowerup dies this past summer from Cancer. In his honor/memory, I now run a rig that does WCG specifically to fight cancer, and since it is already working with a one minded purpose, I also run F@H on the GPU since it does little else.

I think I kinda caught the bug for WCG crunching.... Only the top 110 or so TEAMS crunch more than me.

I dabbled to begin with but got serious when I lost my father.

Completely agree... Used to fold for years, but it seemed like you hear very little for it doing any good really. WCG at least does very well at the illusion of helping, no matter if it does or not. However WCG news is seen here and there with credit for new breakthroughs, and if I can help people not deal with what I did, I feel it is worth the effort and cost to run.

There is actually quite a lot published about the progress of WCG work.

I almost lost my boy when he was 2. Meeting other parents who could not look forward to the outcome I got was helpful in putting a number of things in perspective for me. This is just my small part in furthering the knowledge of the scientific community. I will not see the benefit from this I am sure but maybe my kids will. Even if it my Grandkids when I am long gone I feel the need to do my bit.

If someone here wants to start a team I would be happy to help and in the new year bring some crunching power to bear.

Run WCG on your rig whilst you are browsing or build a dedicated rig if you want. Keep the costs down by running an atom maybe... There are lots of ways to help.... all you gotta do is join in

I'd actually love to create a bitcoin factory ... well, not really factory but yea, start a bit with some real hardware ;D
Seems like a project that'll take me too much time right now though.
