Well one of the tools that I find to be useful is NoScript. It is a wonderful tool that blocks scripts from running on your computer. This tool can help protect you from most common internet viruses that self install themselves. However with this said NoScript does need to be told of what websites and things to allow access to, however this is just a couple mouse clicks away after loading sites. http://noscript.net/

I will also say that No-script is a great firefox addon and one that keeps me from using IE for anything on the web.

A few others that are quite handy:

    FireGestures
A customizable mouse gestures extension which enables you to execute various commands and user scripts with five types of gestures.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6366

    QuickDrag
Extends the function of the drag-and-drop mouse gesture so that it can be used to load URLs, do a web search of selected text on a page, or save an image on a page. The successor to Super DragAndGo.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6912

    ScripSreen
Skips unnecessary pages on sites like Rapidshare, Megaupload, zShare, Mediafire, and more. Try it out, or watch a demo at skipscreen.com

Well, it's fast enough actually. Only the daily upgrades are a bit slow.

Here's another extension I used to use, looks really cool, has a great interface but I just didn't use it all that often. http://www.cooliris.com/ It makes a 3D virtual wall out of Google image searches and flickr galleries and for very fast browsing and it works on other sites that have the embedded code. I suggest checking it out just to see the neat interface.

Speaking of Google, I also tried Google Redisgned. It basically totally changes the skin of Gmail, Gcalendar and Greader. I thought it really looked nice, but it really slowed down Firefox too much :(

That looks really nice but too bad they don't also skin iGoogle, I'd give it a shot if it did. As far as gmail, I use one of their built-in themes, "Planets"
