    Hey,

So I could have sworn I posted one of these on here many many moons ago, but as I can't find it. I'm either going batsh... crazy or Andy Deleted it ;)

Where this isn't really a build thread of my PC, More so the desk I made for my PC. :p

After originally moving in to my new house, I had a small desk and a set of drawers that my PC just sat on top of, it didn't look great in the corner of my living room.

My house is relatively small, so when I was about to make my new desk, there was only one place for the old one to go while it was still covered in crap..

In the middle of the Living room of course!

Not sure why I never took any pictures of actually cutting and joining the desk, but once it was all measured, cut and put together I started by making a sub-frame that's bolted to the wall which allows me to just slide the complete unit on and off at any point. Which is a good thing as 5 years on I've STILL not stained it!

Also made sure I threw a couple of holes around the place for cable management, although by the pics I'm putting up you'd think my cables are just thrown all over the place... 'cos they are.

These two pictures kinda show the sub-frame that's holding it up, ignore the flurry of cables...

Oh, While I think on - NO. The Radiator is NOT on, I'm stupid but i'm not that stupid... hopefully.

This is what the end product looked like when I first built it 5 years ago, We put the end 'legs' on just for effect, they don't actually do anything except serve as finger painting areas for my kids these days..

When I first got this PC, It was a pretty decent specced machine.

Running an AMD Hex 1100T Black Edition, 8GB Corsair XMS2 Ram and a HD6950 accompanied by a X-Fi Xtreme gamer sound card, It held it's own on the gaming front.

    [IMG][IMG]

After a year or two, I simply swapped out the HD6950 for a HD7970 which kept me going for a while.

However I recently upgraded again.. First things first, broken fan? Replace!

Intel Core i7 4790, Yes.. using the stock cooler as I haven't bought a new one yet. xD
    [IMG]

Don't have a close up pic, but I chose a PNY GTX970 , and to go along with the new setup I upgraded my screens.

    2x 24" Wide AOC G2460F 144Hz Screens.

So, Basically my PC as it stands looks like this:

Installed the second GTX 970 yesterday, Amazed at how quiet the system still is even under load.

GTA V runs between 70-120 FPS on average depending where I am with everything maxed and 1920x1080 144hz. Just a damn shame it's not overly fond on SLi setups! .... and that it keeps fecking crashing. I have V-Sync set on half to attempt to stop a few crashes, it's rare I see the counter drop below 72.

Think I need to get a cable extension too, The CPU power cable isn't long enough to be managed around the back of the case to reach the socket, so it's having to be trailed over the cards at the moment :(

Alas, I also need a decent CPU cooler at some point, but for now I'm having no issues with the stock cooler. So not in a hurry to up it.

This is my Heaven 4.0 benchmark scores with and without the SLi running. Everything on stock clocks in this machine.

    SLi off
    [IMG]

    SLi on
    [IMG]

Over all, Pretty happy with the results. :)

The desk is a brilliant idea and way beyond my ability....although its got me thinking. ;)

What are your cpu core temps like under load? and doesnt the stock cooler sound somewhere between Driller killer and that feeling you get when your sneeking up on someone in say , Battlecheat and somebody nearby has been using a hair drier for 20 mins?

The noise isn't too much of an issue for me as mostly I have my headset on, so it'll be annoying the wife instead ;)

Although, As I was playing Witcher 3 tonight, The CPU core temps did fly up to insane numbers under the stock cooler. I've now ordered a retention ring kit for my old Asetek 570LX so that it fits over the i7. This should at least allow me to drop a fair amount over the stock cooler, and by only spending a few £.

If it becomes an issue at any point after that I'll likely upgrade to a better cooler.

On the note of The Wicther 3 - Ultra Settings @ 19200x1080 = Happy 60-70FPS. Shame it nearly melts my CPU! ;)

Sounds like you have a plan, I went for 140mm fans to enjoy the peace.. The phanteks air cooler I went for is close to water cooled temps at standard clocks but the divide grows quickly if I overclock.
I'm using a single GTX 970 4 g and it seems pretty good with all I have thrown at it so far. With the problems you have seen would you recommend sli ? and do you get tearing with v sync off?

Definitely recommend the Sli. I've not had any major problems with it, just my own stupidity really.

I've not noticed any screen tear thus far, I use hqlf Vsync on GTAV so that it sits at 72 fps, this apparently helps with one of the common crashes. Unsure if true but I haven't crashed out as often lately.

I did play Diablo 3 and Counter Strike on the sli setup with way over 200fps on each, still no noticeable screen tear.

    Hurrah!

6 Days later, my Adapter from the States turned up, which means I can now reinstall my Asetek 570LX instead of the stock cooler!

While I was at uit, just about managed to squeeze the CPU power cable around the back, making it look that little bit neater over all. The only thing that annoys me now really is the GPU power cables, they stick up too much! Good excuse to get a newer PSU? :p

The two cables you can see going out of shot below are from two 120mm fans on the side of the case.

Massive drop in ambient temperature right away compared to the stock cooler.

Now I can go play The Witcher again without fear of melting my CPU! xD

    Ok, So today was interesting.

I ripped my desk out, removed the raised section and stained it, put it back in place and replaced my bits. All the while getting passed shots of 40% Vodka from our neighbours.

    Mess...

    Even More Mess!

Getting prepped with the orbital sander

    Slowly getting there..

Back in place without the raised section

    Deciding where things should go

    Final outcome!

Screens will be moved as soon as I buy a vesa mount and get them floating!

For now, I'm going to bed to get this Vodka out my system..
