    After having words with the family, Ive now settled on a tablet as my main present this year.

    I dont really have a set budget, but Id think about £400 would be tops.

    Must be quick;
    Must have ample storage, or the option of SD card if small storage;
    Newest model (so in the case of iPads, it would have to be the new one, not the 1/2).

    Im loving the look of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, but Ive heard theres going to be the next version in a few months?
    The Nexus 7 and 10 have also grabbed my attention, but are they as good as the Note 10?

    Anyone have any experience with these tablets?
    Reviews only give hard facts and comparisons, where I dont actually mind if mine will be slightly slower than others, as long as it gets the job (of facebook and angry birds) done.

    Yes, the nexus 7 and 10 are as good as the note, and newer as compared to the note, you'd be getting a lot more updates and custom ROMS since it's a Google Tablet, and is quite popular. :)

    The new iPad is a bit more expensive than 400 right? Otherwise i would suggest you the mini version of it.

    Depends what you actually need from the tablet. Games? Social Networking? What will be ur main use of it?

    Android doesnt have many great games, but most of the popular ones have apps on both android and iOS :D

    I've been hearing that that HP, that was only on sale for a few months last year before hp pulled the plug, is great once you get ICS4 on it. pretty flexible on mem etc too and at <£200 for a pretty fast processor it seems like a viable option.

    Thinking of getting one myself.

    It may be cheap, but not something that great and long term for the tech enthusiast. :S

    Just reserved a galaxy note and I had a prompt about the nexus 10. I now want the nexus 10, but I can't find any UK information apart from that on Google store.

    Ideally I want to purchase from a highstreet chain so I can just walk in a return it if its faulty.

    I have an Acer Iconia W500 Tablet PC-m, very little background warranty gép.A world-class, free door-to-door service, and track each step of ACER online interface, email, SMS, and the surface of the UPS courier service. I have 5 working days improved from Hungary, Czech Republic went to my service center. And it was a hardware problem, the LCD panel cable soldering let me go. Nothing serious.

    For the job you want it, (fb and angry birds you say?) I'd definitely take a look at the ainol's too. Esp now that you spend on your car those ainol's have a big advantage over samsung's and nexus's and thats their cheap price... Spec-wise they dont lack from the other pricier tablets and they work like a charm. Hero (10'' dual-core) and Fire/Flame (7'') I think it's their names, both with IPS screens and 1gb of ram...

    I hate Archos. Had am mp3 player of there's once and the touchscreen stopped responding within a month of purchase and they were refusing to repair it under warranty claiming I was too "rough" and damaged it myself. Would never use or recommend any of their products again.

    Dont get the HP. even with android its a pain in the a**. I have have one and I want to toss it against a wall. I want a Surface. It has all of the features of a PC just smaller with a touch screen. You can even plug a Ipad or Ipod to it like you would your PC. lol

    Id love The surface, but it would have to be the Pro version, not the current RT version.

    But then if I go down that route, it would be more beneficial if I just went with a laptop like the Lenovo Yoga (Tablet and laptop), would get a pretty nippy i5/ i7 processor and a massive hard drive for like £700 compared to the £900 for the 64GB Pro Surface.

    Still currently in the middle of doing the car though, need to find like £50 and I can double the power :D

    I'm sort of in the same boat you are, except I'm wanting to get a tablet that, with a keyboard dock or keyboard case, I can use to replace my laptop. I've got a MacBook Pro, and I just don't think I need it anymore. I edit video once or twice a year, and no longer do pro photography. It's just not that important for me to have a souped-up laptop anymore.

    Well, if it's not the new ipad (or the new "new ipad" lol) it might as well be the Surface? Other than that I'm not sure you will appreciate the way pre-JB Android
    runs...
