I've been putting off getting a new PC because I do NOT want Windows 8. The new version of Windows is close to being released, but I haven't heard anything about how well Windows 7 games work on it. Anyone heard anything?

From the alpha so far , it's looking a lot like what windows 8 SHOULD have been , kernal improvements and pretty much so far anything that runs on windows 7 / 8 should run on 10.

BUT....it's still in development....things could change.

Why don't you just get a new computer and then install a new OS yourself

I may well install it myself but don't want to be basically a beta tester. Getting a new OS is enough of a pain as it is.

If I do install it myself, I'm going to do it on my own build instead of something that has Win8 already. That awful OS messed with the actual BIOS of a laptop I setup so that it was unable to dual-boot. Linux was impossible and other versions of Windows seemed to require a brand new license. I really hate Win8.

Windows 10 worked very well for me for gaming, i had no problems using an amd gpu withe the omega drivers, i went back to win 7 simply as i could not stream to my wd live anymore, otherwise i would still be on it.

games wise you can always try yourself the games you wanna play,
but for applications for work etc i wouldn't make the swap right at the beginning before knowing they work for sure

Does anybody else get the feeling that Windows brings out OS and then gets it right 2 systems down the line , eg windows 7 was what vista should have been , and it looks like windows 10 is what windows 8 should have been ...I am dreading Windows 11 ..... ;-)

I'm all up for W10 as long as the Tablet features are better than 8.1

Sounds about right. And XP was perfect before Vista came along. But it also had a long lifespan. If 10 is everything it sounds to be and works well, it will have a long lifespan too and you can probably skip the next failed OS if the trend continues. :p
A lot of people stuck with XP.

With so much negative feedback about Vista and the negative reviews. Microsoft quickly revised their operating system and released Windows 7. XP Was the best when it was released. Everyone loved it and was the perfect OS after Windows 2000. Windows 7 was the next loved OS.

Windows 8 again received negative feedback just like Vista. It got better with Windows 8.1 which was good. With Windows 10 coming out soon, hopefully this will be the Ark of all Windows Operating Systems once it's released. I've tried and tested W10 and has plenty of potential. The start menu is better and will take time to adjust.

    win 10 gaming so far:
Pretty much any game won't ALT/ESC, causes a black screen and nothing can revive the system (audio still functions, as does the network).

GTA IV huge fail, GFWL seems to be the culprit, lots of crashing straight to desktop.

Pool Nation, is flaky and can freeze.

    BF4 works very well.

Going to test GTA V tonight.

3dMark does some crashing to desktop, so it can take a few tries to do the DX11/Mantle/DX12 compare
Yes you should be very excited for DX12.

you dont want to be a beta tester... i suppose but i dont mind beta testing things it seems mostly done. That said if you hated 8 you will probably hate 10 as well most if not all the look of 8 is in 10 the biggest difference is microsoft listened to everyone's negative feed back over the metro ui and squished it down back into a start button.

That said 8.1 with something like classic shell eliminated all of my dislike for 8 try that out if you haven't.

also 7 will not be getting spartan or direct x12 or anything else

also unlike the above my celeron powered laptop has no issues alt tabbing in game to other windows ctrl escape is the key combo to open the start menu

That's good to hear. I'm quite excited for the new windows 10. Although I guess I'm one of the few that doesn't mind windows 8.1. It is very stable for me, and works well.

I have been running W10 preview for a few months and I am impressed, compatability is great and bugs are ironed out quickly. Having used all versions of Windows from 3.11 this is the best so far.Role on 29 July so I can try xbox streaming.
