GTX 960 is the first upgrade from current gen.
My R9 380 is a great card depending on what price you have to give for it, I can play all of my games at highest settings and get well over 60fps easy, also the card looks great and don't make my case/room hot as it never overheats on me even with up to a 30% OC and power boost.
I just got a Gigabyte Gtx 1070 G1 Gaming, unfortunately it is bottlenecked by my amd fx-8320
gtx 960 sli asus strix and evga ssc (second one is borrowed)
R9 380X 4gb ,Right now can hold pretty much anything ,planning to upgrade to 1070 or 1080 next year
I'm using R7 260x and looking to upgrade to 1050 Ti or 1060 3GB made by Geforce definitely. Even Radeon's RX 470 is convincing enough!
I'm currently using an ASUS Strix GTX 1070 after upgrading from the ASUS Strix GTX 950. Doing me great so far

MSI GTX 970. Very nice card and quiet too. Good temps under load.

Just recently upgraded my Gigabyte R9 280 windforce3 to Sapphire Nitro + RX 480 and I'm impressed by power that this card has.

Even with the 3.5GB ram thing not had a problem playing any game at decent setting since I bought it
got gtx 1070 FE. and added 212Mhz for core and 550mhz for memory.
Gigabyte 1060 G1 6GB, by far the best card i have ever owned.
Inno3D GTX 1080 x4, and it's freaking glorious!
The ram thing was never really a problem IMO, the performance on that card is fantastic.
